Kids activity - Umbrella painting

Had a lovely time with hubby dear and kiddo on Australia day/Indian Republic day. Went to park, there was a nice celebration with lots of activities and games for kids.

We met the amazing Mr and Mrs Kangaroo, the walking trees..

The best was the umbrella painting. I loved this idea of engaging the kiddo. We got a plain white umbrella, painted it with lovely colors to our hearts content and gave it a nice glamorous finish by adding glitter all over.

..mamma bhi happy and baby bhi :)

What are the activities you enjoy doing with your little one?

Love - mini mixed media canvas

Hi dear friends
Hope you had a good start for the year and wish you have a fabulous month of love!
Sharing with you today a mixed media canvas I made for DH on our anniversary. This is my first attempt at mixed media, thanks to all the inspiration from my lovely bloggy pals!

I tried to make a small house filled with love, by the river side, under a tree. The tree full of delicious fruits, calm river and the brightly smiling Sun! Ah, a perfectly calm and serene life :)

Started by giving this mini canvas a layer of paint. Stuck packing paper to give the texture.
Had a house paper paper clip, perfect for my house. Painted the tree and embellished it by quilling. It has some birds from a pattern paper. The house is filled with Love brad from purple pumpkin and some pink stones. Made a river with blue mini beads. The Sun is a button from purple pumpkin. The sand is acrylic color on the crushed tissue.

I love my smiling Sun and the happy feeling I get every time I look at this lovely scene. how did you like it?

Best start of the year!

Hi Peeps
Welcome to my blog this new year..There could not be a better start of the year for me..met my family after  2 long years..played with my little laddu gopal(my bothers son..yey I am bua now!), attended his function and had a blast with all my extended family in India!

Sharing with you today a layout from my daughters baby book. The pictures are taken during Christmas in Melbourne.

I forget things very easily. Sometimes I feel it is good coz I don't burden my mind with unnecessary stuff but sometimes I do wanna remember and cherish the good memories. These are the times I try to capture in pictures. I also used to maintain a diary jotting down the wonderful moments every year..have to be more regular at it.

Do let me know how you liked my layout..love.

Quilled ganeshji and lumba rakhi

Hi ppl

Brother and sister relation is a very special bond always, but it is that time of the year when we indians pay a little more attention to out sibling! Yes Rakhsa bandhan it is!

Raksha Bandhan, (the bond of protection) or Rakhi is a Hindu festival primarily observed in IndiaMauritius and Nepal, which celebrates the relationship between brothers, cousins and sisters. The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, which comes in many colors and designs, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to him.

Sharing with you, the rakhis i made for my brother and sister in law last year! Yeh i am that lazy somtime.. :)

Made a quilled rakhi with ganeshji for my brother. Sprinkled some sparkle. Loved it!
We also have the ritual to tie rakhi to SIL which is tied to the bangel..just love the danglers i get to tie too!! This dangler is called lumba rakhi. Made a quilled cone and decorated with beads and stones. It is quiet sturdy with a fevicol coating inside, which makes it firm on drying and gives  a nice shine too.

Are you inspired to make a quilled rakhi too? Do lemme know how you liked it.

Nostalgic nan khatai

This is a lovely goody which reminds me of my childhood days..oh the carefree once where you dont need to worry of lot many things..just play eat, study(that used to look like a big thing!)
My aunt loved baking and always used to bring this for me when she visited us. I loved it and kiddishly used to call it "nani ki tai" ...just breaking up the words and mean something totally different.

Sharing this mouth melting cookies with you, original recipe is here, just made few modifications..loved it all over again!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup Gram flour, besan
  • 1/4 cup semolina, sooji
  • 1/2 cup coconut powder
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Ghee ( clarified butter )
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • Handful of cashews , for garnishing

Method:

    • Sieve all the flours together and mix cardamom powder, Cinnamon powder and rose water to it properly.
    • Melt the ghee and add sugar to it. Whisk for a while to get it mixed properly. It will take around 3-4 minutes of rigorous whisking to get the desired consistency.
    • Add this Ghee-Sugar mixture to the flours and start getting the dough together. It will not be like a proper pliable mass of dough but will be crumbly and tight.
    • Now make equal rounds of balls out of it and flatten them for a cookie shape. Place a cashews in the centre for garnish.
    • Bake them in a preheated oven for 10 min at 200 degrees. Check them once at this point and bake for another 5 minutes if required. Mine took precisely 13 minutes.
    • The cookie coming straight from the oven will be very delicate and crumbly. Give them some time to cool off , around 10 minutes. Enjoy while they are still warm, they will turn harder when cool completely.

Cherish the moments! - double slider layout

Our little miss has become so talktative..its just so much fun to listen to her. She's like a complete chatter box just at the age of 2! Sharing some of her cuteness with you all..
 - Her favourite numbers at the moment (believe me she knows full lyrics and sings atleast 75% of it correctly!) "Sa re ke sa re ga ma ko le kar gate chale", " Bache mann ke saache, sare jag ki..", "haina bolo bolo, haina bolo bolo..", " hum bhi agar bache hote"
- Fourite rhymes - (English) Baba black sheep, old mac donald had a farm
                         - (Hindi) Me me me bakri, chal chal ke char ghas hari, meetha meetha dudu, gatak gatak ke khoob piyu..takat aati tab itni ek bade haathi jitni, mujhe dekhkar dangal me sher bhagega jangle me"
                         - Chu chu karti aayi chidiya, daal ka dana layi chidiya..

(This is a continuous one..will keep updating this section for some time..)

Coming to my layout, I made a double slider layout for the first time. Gave the page a wash of yellow color to get this lovely bright background.
Decorated the border with stickers. The little is "Cherish" using little alphabet characters having fun! The pics are from our New Zealand trip.
The double slider adds a nice interactive element to the baby book.

Do lemme know how you liked it.
