Quilled ganeshji and lumba rakhi

Hi ppl

Brother and sister relation is a very special bond always, but it is that time of the year when we indians pay a little more attention to out sibling! Yes Rakhsa bandhan it is!

Raksha Bandhan, (the bond of protection) or Rakhi is a Hindu festival primarily observed in IndiaMauritius and Nepal, which celebrates the relationship between brothers, cousins and sisters. The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, which comes in many colors and designs, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to him.

Sharing with you, the rakhis i made for my brother and sister in law last year! Yeh i am that lazy somtime.. :)

Made a quilled rakhi with ganeshji for my brother. Sprinkled some sparkle. Loved it!
We also have the ritual to tie rakhi to SIL which is tied to the bangel..just love the danglers i get to tie too!! This dangler is called lumba rakhi. Made a quilled cone and decorated with beads and stones. It is quiet sturdy with a fevicol coating inside, which makes it firm on drying and gives  a nice shine too.

Are you inspired to make a quilled rakhi too? Do lemme know how you liked it.

Nostalgic nan khatai

This is a lovely goody which reminds me of my childhood days..oh the carefree once where you dont need to worry of lot many things..just play eat, study(that used to look like a big thing!)
My aunt loved baking and always used to bring this for me when she visited us. I loved it and kiddishly used to call it "nani ki tai" ...just breaking up the words and mean something totally different.

Sharing this mouth melting cookies with you, original recipe is here, just made few modifications..loved it all over again!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup Gram flour, besan
  • 1/4 cup semolina, sooji
  • 1/2 cup coconut powder
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Ghee ( clarified butter )
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • Handful of cashews , for garnishing

Method:

    • Sieve all the flours together and mix cardamom powder, Cinnamon powder and rose water to it properly.
    • Melt the ghee and add sugar to it. Whisk for a while to get it mixed properly. It will take around 3-4 minutes of rigorous whisking to get the desired consistency.
    • Add this Ghee-Sugar mixture to the flours and start getting the dough together. It will not be like a proper pliable mass of dough but will be crumbly and tight.
    • Now make equal rounds of balls out of it and flatten them for a cookie shape. Place a cashews in the centre for garnish.
    • Bake them in a preheated oven for 10 min at 200 degrees. Check them once at this point and bake for another 5 minutes if required. Mine took precisely 13 minutes.
    • The cookie coming straight from the oven will be very delicate and crumbly. Give them some time to cool off , around 10 minutes. Enjoy while they are still warm, they will turn harder when cool completely.

Cherish the moments! - double slider layout

Our little miss has become so talktative..its just so much fun to listen to her. She's like a complete chatter box just at the age of 2! Sharing some of her cuteness with you all..
 - Her favourite numbers at the moment (believe me she knows full lyrics and sings atleast 75% of it correctly!) "Sa re ke sa re ga ma ko le kar gate chale", " Bache mann ke saache, sare jag ki..", "haina bolo bolo, haina bolo bolo..", " hum bhi agar bache hote"
- Fourite rhymes - (English) Baba black sheep, old mac donald had a farm
                         - (Hindi) Me me me bakri, chal chal ke char ghas hari, meetha meetha dudu, gatak gatak ke khoob piyu..takat aati tab itni ek bade haathi jitni, mujhe dekhkar dangal me sher bhagega jangle me"
                         - Chu chu karti aayi chidiya, daal ka dana layi chidiya..

(This is a continuous one..will keep updating this section for some time..)

Coming to my layout, I made a double slider layout for the first time. Gave the page a wash of yellow color to get this lovely bright background.
Decorated the border with stickers. The little is "Cherish" using little alphabet characters having fun! The pics are from our New Zealand trip.
The double slider adds a nice interactive element to the baby book.

Do lemme know how you liked it.

Explosion box card for parents to be :)

I was so lucky to have my mom come and stay with us, here is Aus for a full 3 months! Dosen't feel like the time is already over!! :( Had a lovely time with mom here, first time after graduation, I  got a chance to stay together with her for this long. She is just adorable, already missing her so much..

As is very rightly said, you realize the importance of your parents, after you become one! Looking at my daughter now, I just wonder how much fun it wud be for our parents and also how much heart ache have given them during the growing up years..

My not so little bro is going to experience these myriad of feelings very soon.
I made this explosion box (my first) for my bro and bhabhi for the lovely phase they are in right now anticipating their little wonder to come into this world and complete it for them!

Made this box using 12*12 pattern paper, washi tapes, some cute cut outs I had of baby and mom. Some 3D Stickers, also a picture of my brother and sis in law with my little S. Got a very cute mini letter from an art store here, loved it!

Here are the detailed shots..

Birthday girl name plate

Little S recently turned 2. This is the name place I made for her birthday to put below the birthday banner. The alphabets are hand drawn and cut. I used the colourful file liners for the different alphas. Applied glitter on the outline for each of the alphabets. The lace at the bottom is a rub-on craft lace. Made a quilled border with roses and leaves.

Do lemme know if you liked it, would love to hear from you!

Little S had a hair cut!

Hi friends
Here is a layout featuring my little ones first hair cut.
In our custom,  a childs first hair are dedicated to god. We took her to the barber shop and she had her hair cut sitting in my lap. Thankfully she did not understand then , what was going on. Hence it was done very quickly. I cant imagine the same now. Now if we try to trim her hair, she becomes so conscious that she would not let us touch her hair even when she is asleep!!

I arranged her hair cut photos sequentially, with the outcome at the end. Fuzzy cut the last pic. Have used washi tape as a base for the photos along with some doodling and designer lace.Have used the clip arts for scissors and comb. The alphas are glitter stickers and rub ons.

Hi there!

Hi people, did you all miss us?? hope you did coz we did too. I am back to work after a looong leave (spending the most cherished time of my life with my little one). Moved to Sydney from Melbourne. So now you know what kept me away from blogging, but I did try to catch up with all the updates happening around and did try to visit most of my awesome friends in this blog land.

This layout features my daughter in her crawling stage. She was so fast when crawling, she would be at one place a second ago and in another room the other second. She loved all the nooks and corners of the house and enjoyed playing with the wires.
Used lot of 3-D animal stickers. I found them very cute and with similar expressions as my daughter. :)
The top right photo is her under the chair! The bottom left photo is her looking at an insect from the big glass window. I went out of the house and took her picture from there.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you like my layout.

Precious moments with mama - Best wishes on your birthday!

Hi Friends, wish u all a very happy new year.
Here's a layout I made featuring my bro n daughter. Love this photo of both of them. Wanted to keep the layout simple. Painted some circles using kitchen roll, hand cut the rectangle frame from corrugated sheet. Used a twine on the heart which was present on the paper, to match with the color of the frame.

Many many best wishes to my little bro on this special day, may God bless you and give all the happiness.
