Quilled hearts - anniversary card

Hi Peeps, sharing with you today a anniversary card with two hearts in red.
Sometimes in a project, you wish you had stopped yourself a little earlier and not overdone the project :( This is one such project. I wish I had not filled the bigger heart completely, it was looking so pretty with the smaller one filled with beehive and the bigger one outlined. But alas, what is done is done. Does this happen with you?

Tidbits

With the 100th post of my blog, I would like to introduce you to my little S and share some of the fun that I am having as she is growing :)

Dear S

I am really enjoying this phase of your development, when you are trying to repeat and speak almost everything we say in your own way. You very comfortably say 'Babaji', 'Ma', 'Pappa' and not to forget 'Mummy' :), 'Nanaji', 'Nani', 'Mama', 'Mami', 'Bua', 'Sakshi', 'Harsh'. 'Tata', 'Bye bye', 'Saachi shani'...

Since last two days you also are crying calling 'mummy mummy' when you woke from sleep and are looking for me all the time, my heart melts when I hear this.
I am taking you to playgroup since 2-3 weeks and you are having a good time there, you are learning to interact with other children and trying to be assertive.

You walk so fast that it is as good as running. Sometimes you would walk ahead and look back sneakily to see if we are coming behind you! That looks so cute n funny, just like the incy wincy spider in the rhyme which we see together. Be careful not to bump.

You jusssst love to go out of the house, as if you are held in a captivity. You go to anyone who is going out and enjoy your round!

This is the first craft project that we did together. You enjoyed sticking the pieces on the star and saying "stick stick stick"

Almond Chutney/spread

Hi Friends,
Recently I tasted this chutney/spread at a friends place and fell in love with it! It is a yummy side dish with all healthy ingredients. This chutney is also very good for kids and acts as another option to feed them almond (main reason why I got attracted towards this dish!)
It taste somewhat like the peanut-coconut chutney but more richer and healthier.

Ingredients:

To Grind:
10 - 15 almond (soak in warm water for 5-10 mins)
1 tbsp daaliya (roasted chana daal)
1/2 tbsp jaggery
1-2 pods of garlic
small piece of ginger
2 tsp jeera seeds
handfull of coriander leaves
2 tbsp coconut powder (u can use fresh also)
1/2 tbsp tamarind paste
2 roasted green chillies
salt

For tempring:
1 tbsp ghee/oil
2 tsp mustad seeds
hing
1 tsp red chilli powder (optional)

Method
In a frying pan take 1 tsp of oil and roast the green chillies. Grind the ingredients mentioned under to grind along with the chillies into a paste. You can increase or decrease the green chillies depending on how hot you want it. Temper with the ingredients mentioned for tempering. Enjoy this yummy and healthy chutney with fried snacks or any of the south indian dishes like dosa, uttapam, idli.

Note: Daaliya (chana daal/bengal gram daal) here, I am referring to the one we put in chiwda and coconut chutney. The roasted chana daal or phutane. Not the broken wheat daliya.

You can adjust the amount of jaggery if you dont want it to be sweet.

Nanaji's doll

This is layout featuring my dad..(also called Nanaji i.e maternal grandpa) and my daughter. As in the case of most young children, my daughter is also a darling of all her grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters. My dad is no exception. He loves to see the little one first thing in the morning and enjoys playing with her. Love this photo, which captures one such perfect moment.

Here I have used a sweet cup cake tag for the sweet moment, also matching the patern paper I have used and my daughters dress. Highlighted the photo with a lovely lace as a frame. Used "Smile" sentiment from my scrapbook kit, covered with crepe paper flower. Stamped the "You are special" sentiment on another blank label and highlighted with the crepe paper flower, love the symmetrical look.
Also stamped a few stars and colored them in orange.
Tiny little eager legs, very excited to see the book and the pictures!

Thanks for stopping by, do let me know how you liked it.

Oil painitng - Anarkali

Hi friends, sharing with you my very first oil painting frame. It is quiet huge and adorns the wall of our big hall at my native place.
This is the painting of a Indian queen/princess in olden days. It was fun to draw and paint the entire thing. She is all clad in lovely jewellery which i highlighted using kundan/color stones(not very visible in the photo). Her dress is a traditioanl ghaghra. I loved making her chunri (veil), love the translucent effect.
Sorry for the not so good pictures. This is all I could manage to take at night and also the outer cover made it difficult to get clear pics.
The main fun and challenge with this paining was how we transported it on my two wheeler. The person sitting at the back holding it with great difficulty and almost ready to fly with the frame!!!
Do let me know how you liked it!

Three generations of gorgeousness minus one ;) !!

Hi there lovely friends,

Here is another page from my baby book, featuring my mom, daughter and myself. My Mom is the most beautiful and lovely lady, and little daughter is full of cuteness and innocence. As for me, I am just a link between these two. So no where near my mom and far outgrown the cuteness of my daughter! Hence the title with three generations of gorgeousness minus me!(*winks*)

Love the way this page has come out. I wanted to do this long back, but always got postponed because of paints(coz i wanted to do some misting).yeh too lazy to take them out! Have used some number chippies, separated by mirrors. Doily and washi tape adorning the pictures. Used some dimentioanl stickers.
"My Sunshine" seemed to be an apt title for the page with my two darlings. Stamped a fairy and colored with pens.

The first picture is from a family picnic (entire my side of the family) It was too good. Had lotoff fun meeting everyone after so long and enjoying with singing bollywood numbers, playing cards, dumb charades. I just hope this latest generation (my younger cousins) look away from there phones more often! They are so contantly fiddling with their phones, that it feels the people in front of them are not there and they are with the person/s in the phone..texting n all.. The elder generation (my mom-aunts an all) however were fun, they had become more care free and wated to enjoy with full participation!

The 2nd picture is at my moms place. We all got ready for a cousin's marriage. (Please excuse the post-partum chubby me!) Its fun to attend indian marriages. Getting ready, gossiping, eating..oh so much to do! ;)

Thanks for stopping by, have a good day!

New friend

Hi Peeps, just wanted to flaunt this lovely layout made my bloggy friend Yvonne, whom I met recently in Melbourne. We had a lovely time chit chatting and did some craft shopping too, warmed up with a cuppa hot chocolate! Loved it!!!

In the process we did forget to click a picture of ours and so I sent a pic of me and my daughter. Yvonne made this lovely composite layout telling the complete story perfectly without the actual picture of that day!

Thats what is called expertise in scarp booking, and Yvonne is definitely my favourite and my inspiration. :)

Quilled birthday girl + popup card

Made this birthday card for a sweet little girl, my niece. Everyone says my daughter resembles her, genes you know!

Made a happy, quilled little girl. The background paper is from my scrapbook kit. The bangles are looking cute, arent they? (thats my brothers suggestion, who has become more artistic after his marriage ;), all thanks to my lovely SIL)

The inside is a sweet little surprise with a pop up birthday cake and banner. This is my first attempt at a pop up card, very mush inspired by dear Dr Sonia of  cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.in/?m=1 .
Saw this simple technique for pop up on pinterest and was dying to give it a try, its very easy and gives a lovely 3D effect to the card. Check it out here.

Modak for anant chaturdashi

Made these yummylicious modaks for anant chaturdashi. Anant Chaturdashi is generally the tenth or eleventh day after Ganesh Chaturthi, and all the Ganesh idols brought into homes and communities are immersed in the sea or nearby lakes and rivers. On this day, people travel to the waterfront with the idols, large and small, dancing and singing in large processions. Lord Ganesha is departed, only to be welcomed the next year with equal excitement.
We too celebrate ganesh festival every year for 10 days. It feels as if lord Ganesh has actually became a part of our family. We do pooja aarti in the morning and evening with all the family members and offer prasad.
My mom makes these modaks every year for ganesh fest and they would disappear in no time! Just love this stuffed sweet with crisp covering.

Ingredients:
For the dough:
Maida/ APF - 2cup
Olive oil - 1/2 cup (you can use any cooking oil or ghee)
Pinch of Salt

For The Filling:
Grated Coconut-1/2 cups
Sugar- 1 cups
Nuts of your choice(I used finely chopped almond)
Sultana/dried grapes - 1 tbsp
Sooji/ Rava-1 and half cup
Ghee-1 tbs
Cardamom Powder-1 tsp
cinnamon powder- 1/2 tsp
Oil- For Deep Frying

Procedure:
The Outer Dough:
In a bowl add oil, maida and salt, rub until it resembles bread crumbs.. Add water little by little to form a firm dough. Divide it into 21 equal portions. Cover and keep it aside.

For The Filling:
In a pan, heat ghee and roast sooji until golden. Take this sooji out in a bowl. Mix in the sugar,  Sliced nuts, cardamom powder and coconut powder. Divide it into 21 equal portions.

Preparing the Modak:
Roll a ball of dough into a thin circle. Place the one portion of the filling in the centre. Apply little milk with your fingers on the circumference. Gather the sides and bring them on top. Press them gently to form a conical structure at the top.
Heat oil. Add the prepared modaks and fry on medium low flame until it is little reddish from all sides. Drain oil and transfer to a plate. When cool store in airtight jar (if any remain!)

Make a wish :)

I think I can scrap about my daughters 1st birthday, untill  she reaches her second!! he he
I love how this layout has come out. I saw bricks  in one of the fellow scrappers blog, and fell in love with them. Having the wooden bench in these photos I thought the bricks will go well.  I used acrylic colors and an old credit card to get the brick effect (layering the acrylic colour mix with the card). I coloured the ice cream sticks to match. Did some misting on my page for the first time( not that scary as I thought ;)). Stamped this cute birdie on top and colored it. To brighten up the page and to highlight the pictures, I doodled a triangular border in orange.

This picture is taken at a Arrowtown, NZ. It was a nice serene place, become vibrant with the autumn festival going on. For the cake..yup it is the smallest! But with just the three of us, there was no point in getting a full cake! Daughter will have a cake of her choice on her 2nd bday!

P.S I now have 100 follower friends for this little treasure of mine! Wow it feels great. Thanks dear friends for your continues support and encouragement. It means a lot to me.
