Kids Rakhi Activity and Marwadi Son Pooja

Sharing a rakhi activity that little miss did in her school. She decorated a rakhi printout with crepe ribbons and sequence. Isnt it cute!

Also want to share a marwadi tradition for rakhi which we follow and have seen this since my childhood. We make two identical designs on a small piece of paper and stick it on both sides of the door, mainly on the sides of main door, kitchen door. So these little peices are called Son and they are stuck  a day befor on the doors. Traditionally this is done with limestone water - making a small white surface with limestomne water on both sides of the entrance, letting it dry and then painitng it with geru. But now with recent trends there is lot of fasion in this area too! :)  is my simple take on it. My SIL had sent these small son made of plastic, I stuck them on paper and decorated with 3D Outliner. Coming weekend is a lovely indian festival celebrating the bond of love between siblings, Yes it is rakshabandhan..the festival celebrating brother and sister relationship.

I am sure all the sisters must have geared up and prepared lovely handmade rakhis and cards for their brothers. Here are some more ideas to inspire :)

I prepared this rakhi card for my bro last year. It is made using pattern paper and washi tape. The inside has a surprise pop up flower arrangement! now who does not like surprises :)

Handmade Rakhi | Felt Rakhi | Kids Origami Pinwheel Rakhis

 

Hi there..crafty people..hope you are having fun in your life!

Sharing with you some cute pinwheel rakhi that me and my little one made for her brothers! They are damn simple and fast to make. Here is how we made these:

 

Material needed:

Coloured felt/ fleece

Hand made paper

colourful ribbons

Buttons/beads

Glue gun

Glitter

 

Procedure:

1.Cut the card board in small circle for the base of the rakhi. I used a scallop punch for cutting my base.

2. Cut the different felt into square shape around 2 inch in length.

3. Cut slit on the square felt from each corner. Leave some space in the centre.

4. Fold the corners and bring them to the centre (origami pinwheel), stick the corners in the centre using glue gun or other glue.

5. Stick a button on the centre. Now stick this pinwheel on the card and stick the ribbon. Let the rakhi dry.

6. Decorate it with glitter as you please :)

Brother and sister relation is a very special bond always, but it is that time of the year when we indians pay a little more attention to out sibling! Yes Rakhsa bandhan it is! 

Raksha Bandhan, (the bond of protection) or Rakhi is a Hindu festival primarily observed in India, Mauritius and Nepal, which celebrates the relationship between brothers, cousins and sisters.The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, which comes in many colors and designs, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to him. 

Sharing with you, the rakhis i made for my brother and sister in law last year! Yeh i am that lazy somtime.. :)

Made a quilled rakhi with ganeshji for my brother. Sprinkled some sparkle. Loved it!
We also have the ritual to tie rakhi to SIL which is tied to the bangel..just love the danglers i get to tie too!! This dangler is called lumba rakhi. Made a quilled cone and decorated with beads and stones. It is quiet sturdy with a fevicol coating inside, which makes it firm on drying and gives  a nice shine too.

Made this card for my dear brother Karan and sister-in-law Jyoti, this rakhi. I wanted to post this after they receive it. Thankfully they did get my card and rakhi although a few days after rakhi. I am really happy that it did got delivered :)
I loved the image on this card, it is from a photo shop broacher and I wanted to use it somewhere good, what better than a card for younger bro !(that makes me the angel ;)) The flower is a quilled Malaysian flower with a fringed flower at the center, the lace is a leather texture one, gifted by my dear sis.

The green hang on is another kind of rakhi called as lumba. It is typically tied by sisters on their bhabhi's wrist. It is tied to the bangle as a pretty hang on. This rakhi is also tied by MIL to DIL, between SIL, between co sisters
